With the development of globalization,news transedited by Reference News help domestic readers understand how foreign media interpret events at home and abroad.Under the guidance of Mona Baker's Narrative Theory,the thesis studies news reports on "Sino-US trade conflict" by Reference News from 1st March to 31 st May,2018,and their corresponding English source texts by foreign media.The selection preference for narrative material of news on “Sino-US trade conflict” between Reference News and foreign media is firstly compared to explore their differences and similarities.Furthermore,the way in which Reference News reframes source news in transediting is analyzed with the help of case study,and the possible factors influencing the reframing ways are analyzed under Baker's Narrative Theory.Firstly,differences and similarities between Reference News and foreign media in selection preference for narrative material of news on “Sino-US trade conflict” are found.As to reporting attitude,on the one hand,both foreign media and Reference News manage to maintain neutral in reporting “Sino-US trade conflict”;on the other hand,relatively,foreign media prefer covering news reports with a negative attitude towards China,while Reference News tends to cover news reports with a positive attitude towards China.As to reporting topics,foreign media are inclined to report “Sino-US trade conflict” from a more dispersed and diversified perspective,while Reference News highlights the trade conflict itself.Secondly,transeditors of Reference News accentuate,undermine or mediate certain aspects of original news narratives regarding “Sino-US trade conflict” with narrative reframing strategies,including selective appropriation,temporal and spatial framing,framing by labelling and repositioning of participants,to signal their narrative stance,and guide target readers' narrative attitude and stance.Lastly,it is found that factors influencing the way of reframing of original narratives include the change in typology of narratives,interference of national public narratives,disparity in narrative stances and influence of meta-narratives.In conclusion,there are both differences and similarities in selection preference for narrative material between Reference News and foreign media,and transeditors of Reference News reframe original news narratives in the target narrative context with different strategies,to lead readers to form ontological narratives consistent with China's official public narrative.
