| The Vikings in the Western Christendom is an academic work focusing on the early Viking history,which is of great historical reference and cultural research value.Due to long time since its publication,great changes have taken place in historical and cultural context and historical and cultural knowledge background of the readers.Therefore,the academic charm of the book should be retained and highlighted in the translation process,so as to provide sufficient academic reference and research information for the target readers.Firstly,in order to retain and enhance the academic quality of the translated text,it is necessary to deal with the transformation between abstract expression and concrete expression properly at the level of linguistic form.Secondly,a large number of proper names,allusions and concepts need to be verified in detail,a large number of necessary historical background information and cultural content need to be supplemented,and complex historical character relationships need to be combed carefully,so as to provide a large number of auxiliary and reference information for the target readers,and eliminate reading obstacles caused by the change of historical context and lack of background knowledge for the target readers.Based on the above requirements,by referring to parallel texts,this paper analyzes and draw on the academic presentation levels and dimensions of academic works of similar types,similar topics,and similar properties,it mainly focuses on the processing skills of inheritance of language style,presentation of text information,the textual research and use of terminology and the moderate adjustment of format and style.In this paper,the dimension and method of retaining and revealing the academic charm in the process of translation are discussed in detail,such as the handling of long and difficult sentences,the translation of quoted verses,the textual research and supplement of proper names,and the supplement of background information. |
