A Practical Report On The Academic Texts

With the accelerating process of globalization,China,as a rapidly developing economy,is growing to a new destination of immigrants.On June 30 th 2016,the International Organization for Migration(IOM)held a special session in Geneva and approved the application for accession of China by consensus.Thus China officially became the 165 th member of the organization,which marked the beginning of a new period for immigration in this country.Therefore,the study of immigration has become a necessity for China.Based on excerpts from The Integration of Immigrants into American Society,a academic research report of the integration of immigrants into America society,this translation practice could serve as the reference and guidance for the immigration research in China.In the process of translation,the most difficult task is to deliver the information(especially long sentences)accurately on the basis of fully understanding of the source text.According to Peter Newmark's classification of text type,the source text of this translation practice belongs to the informative text.Newmark puts forward semantic translation method and communicative translation methods.He believes that the informative text should be translated under the guidance of communicative translation method.Therefore,this report will analyze the translation project from the perspective of communicative translation.In view of the emphasis of this report is on the case analysis,the author makes lots of analyses to show how the methods and strategies are applied to some cases under the guidance of related theories.According to Communicative Translation Theory,the author applies some translation skills and methods as follows: Conversion,Amplification and Omission,Inversion,Splitting and Reconstruction,Change of Voice.
