painting nowadays has changed greatly both in visual and concept from the old days. From the very beginning of the conceptual art, painting has been challenged from various aspects in the west, such as photography, moving image,ready-made,installation,action,etc.In the present era of globalisation, the rapid exchange and development of information, cultural diversity has broken the mono standard of painting, the development of contemporary painting more and more tend to the artist's own cognition and feelings, and these self-cognition comes from the artist's individual experience in his social environment, these individual experience differences have also created a different features of contemporary painting. This paper is based on the methodology of how to extract one's own individual experience in painting making, this paper is divided into five chapters:The first chapter,After researching the development of contemporary painting in art history, social changes and the current studies,it seems to me that there were many discussions on the experimental and conceptuality of contemporary painting and painting as container for traditional culture, but seldom see painting in a more individual way which I believe will be so helpful for art practise and as a drive for artists to maintain independent thinking and true feelings,so they could dig more possibility of painting in daily life. The second chapter analyses three aspects: the features of individual experience in contemporary painting, the extraction and expression of individual experience in painting creation and the relationship between private and public experience.Through the analysis of these three,I find that the works made by artists by refining their own personal experience not only express the unique spirit of the artist, but also carry a common feelings of a larger group of people. Therefore,by choosing artists who are more representative in refining individual experience to conduct case studies not onlyfind out how artists transformed their individual experience into a work of art through different methods, but also indicate how the relationship between private and public experience would be manifested in a work of art.The third chapter takes Francis Bacon,Nara Yoshitomo and Zhang Xiaogang as examples, and makes very specific case analysis, from which we can see that the art works are not only related to the region, social background and experience of the artist, but also to the artist's accidental discovery in daily life and the method of making.Through the analysis and research of these three artists,it provides an important way of understanding for art theory and my own art practice. The fourth chapter makes a systematic analysis and combing of my own art practise and art thoughts development in the past ten years, from which we can see that individual experience is the core element of my art,and my art ideas and methods have also experienced different changes in different periods, and these changes are also the process of constantly refining my own individual experience. The conclusion in fifth chapter,I realised that on one hand, individual experience is indeed the core element of personal expression,on the other hand, the consistent development and refinement of individual experience could connect to the public experience and the society, which bring depth to the work and an important access for empathy. These thoughts inspired me and also promote the innovation in my ideas and art making methods.
