Using Immortal Allusions To Open The Realm

Li Shangyin(李商隐)is the most outstanding representative of Qiyan’s(绮艳,gorgeous words and amorous content)poetry style in the late Tang Dynasty.Most of his remaining Yanqing(艳情,erotic or romantic)poems achieve high artistic achievements.This is inseparable from his various artistic expression,especially breaking through the limitation of the subject matter and the tradition of using allusions,combining the romantic love with the immortal allusions,which constitutes the most prominent performance characteristics of Li Shangyin’s Yanqing poems.The extensive use of immortal allusions has greatly contributed to the style features of Li Shangyin’s Yanqing poems,which are maginative and bewildered,and has opened up a new Yanqing’s world,that is a artistic realm which relates myth and reality.Meanwhile,expressing the romantic feelings and the the vast spiritual world.Therefore,Li Shangyin can beyond traditional Yanqing poems.Previous research on Li Shangyin’s Yanqing poems has paid too much attention to the theme of poetry,focusing on background criticism and Benshi(本事,story)exploration.Even with the deepening of Li Shangyin’s research in recent years,more and more discussions have been made on the artistic characteristics of his Yanqing poems,there is still no systematic and in-depth study on Li Shangyin’s artistic expression that combining the romantic love with the immortal allusions.Therefore,the thesis takes the immortal allusions used in Li Shangyin’s Yanqing poems as the research object,and focuses on the relation between immortal allusions and the Yanqing’s characteristic of Li Shangyin’s poetry,which has a great improvement over previous Yanqing poems.Around the immortal allusions used in Li Shangyin’s Yanqing poems,the thesis intends to divide into three chapters to discuss in a concrete and in-depth way.The first chapter discusses the art of using Xiaoshi(萧史)and Nongyu’s(弄玉)story in Li Shangyin’s two untitled poems that are Zuoye and Wendao(昨夜;闻道).As an entry point to explore the significance of combining the romantic love with the immortal allusions,and to grasp this kind of artistic expression.The second chapter isa comprehensive observation of Li Shangyin’s all Yanqing poems and its immortal allusions.And discusses the Yanqing’s characteristic of Li Shangyin’s poetry by means of using immortal allusions,that is mysticization,rationalization and dramatization.The third chapter will connect the total development of ancient Yanqing poems,including Qi,Liang and Chen(齐梁陈),Mid Tang,and the Yanqing poems of Lihe(李贺)and Wen Tingyun(温庭筠).Exploring the creativity of combining the romantic love with the immortal allusions by comparison.
