Xinjiang is an agglomeration of multi-ethnic groups with rich ethnic characteristics and unique regional culture.Since liberation,numerous outstanding figure-painters have been attracted to Xinjiang by the unique humanistic customs of ethnic minorities to get sketches of Xinjiang's landscapes and conducted their artistic creations,and have come to form an arts group devoted to artistic creation with the ethnic minorities in Xinjiang as subject matter.The characteristics and ways of life of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang provided a continuous stream of inspiration and materials for the artists' creation,activated their artistic expression,and thus took on different artistic features,so that the theme figure painting of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang has developed and exhibited the spiritual connotations of Xinjiang figure painting to more people.All these above appeal to me strongly and have strengthened my ideas for the creation of ethnic minority paintings in Xinjiang and therefore I embarked on my research and practice in this regard.This paper is divided into four parts: Chapter I is the brief introduction,which introduces the reasons for the choice of my topic,the contents of the thesis,the significance of the research and relevant methods.Chapter II gives a general account of the background of the research,and Chapter III gives an example of the works of artists with different artistic styles in different periods.Chapter IV discusses the influence of the subject matter of ethnic minority customs on the practice of artistic creation through the above-mentioned research.The conclusion has been drawn through my research that the artistic creation with the ethnic minority customs as subject matter is a way of inheriting and innovating the traditional Chinese figure painting,which embodies the national traits and the zeitgeist,and has a pivotal position in the field of artistic creation of Chinese painting.Many contemporary artists are concerned about life,rooted in life,consciously shoulder the artistic mission,have a higher aesthetic taste.However,there are a lot of art works with empty and mediocre contents and impetuous images and the way of creation of photo painting has lost the cultural sense of national spirit,directly affect the art itself.Therefore,we need to genuinely listen,look andfeel and to be deeply rooted in life to experience the culture of national customs.On the other hand,due to the remote geographical location of Xinjiang,painting fails to gain wide attention and also has great limitations in terms of artistic expression.And hence its development is relatively slow.Therefore,it is of vital importance to adhere to the national art style,keep up with the pace of the times,innovate and develop the creation method of figure painting with Xinjiang ethnic minorities and customs as subject matter,attempt to provide a favorable way of thinking for their own future art creation so as to create more touching paintings to depict the zeitgeists of the long Chinese history and further enrich the connotation of Chinese painting.
