As a communicative tool,English has been playing an increasingly important role.However,the current traditional English classroom teaching effect is not ideal.Cooperative learning has been more and more widely used in student-centered teaching practice and has become an important breakthrough and supplement to traditional teaching organization.Therefore,the study conducts an action research on the application of cooperative learning in primary school English teaching.On the basis of cooperative learning theory and constructivism learning theory,the study attempts to apply cooperative learning to English teaching in primary schools with action research method.Thirty-two fourth graders participate in the study.Questionnaire survey,interview,classroom observation and teaching reflection log are used as research tools.The research lasts one semester,about 20 weeks.In the early stage of the study,it is found that students' participation in English class is not high;students' interest in English learning and confidence are low;students are lack of communication and cooperation in English classroom learning.These problems result in the students' poor learning effect in English class.Therefore,the study attempts to use cooperative learning to explore how to use cooperative learning to improve English classroom learning effect.Two series of action research are conducted: In the first series,there are the plan of cooperative learning,the implementation of cooperative learning,the collection of data such as classroom observation and student survey of cooperative learning,and the analysis and reflection of cooperative learning data;In the second series,the cooperative learning plan is revised and improved,the new plan is implemented,new data is collected,analyzed and reflected.The data collected mainly include teachers' teaching diary,classroom observation,students' classroom study questionnaire,students' interview record,and students' mid-term and final academic performance.Based on the above research process and data analysis,the main findings of the study are as follows: First,cooperative learning improves students' participation in class.Second,cooperative learning improves students' learning interest and confidence.Thirdly,cooperative learning increases mutual help among students and improves their learning effect.Cooperative learning is an effective way to improve classroom learning.Rational grouping and effective group evaluation can stimulate students' learning motivation and improve their learning interest and self-confidence.At the same time,students get more mutual help,communication opportunities,their inner pressure and anxiety are reduced,their academic performance is improved,and they benefit a lot.
