Since the reform and opening-up,China has made great progress in many aspects such as politics and economy. As one of the main ways of spreading culture, education promotes the process of modernization of Chinese literature. At the beginning of the reform and opening-up,in order to actively restore China’s production development and promote China’s modernization process, learning from developed countries is one of the most important ways for China’s development. As part of the culture of other countries, foreign literature has also become part of China’s reference. Therefore, this article uses modernization as the background to study and analyze the foreign literature curriculum of some universities in China since the reform and opening-up.This paper focuses on Shanghai International Studies University,a language college, and compare and analyze its foreign literature courses in different periods since the reform and opening-up.At the same time, this paper selects Nanjing University and Beijing Normal University as examples to analyse the differences of the foreign literature courses in different types of colleges and universities. This paper is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, which briefly explains the reasons for the selection, the purpose of the research, the significance of the research and the research methods, and clarifies the research ideas of the thesis. The second chapter summarizes the relevant research status at home and abroad. The third chapter clarifies the modern and contemporary background since the reform and opening-up,sorting out the process of our modernization from four aspects of the trend of modernization: political modernization process, economic modernization process and literary modernization process since the reform and opening-up.The fourth chapter mainly examines the setting of foreign literature courses at Shanghai International Studies University from the reform and opening-up to the end of the 20 tn century.Through the study,we can find that the curriculum of universities in the early stage of the reform and opening-up pays more attention to the language foundation. In the education and study, the curriculum of foreign literature has increased significantly, but the research content is more extensive, and the number of courses still has a large gap compared with the basic language courses. The fifth chapter mainly studies the setting of foreign literature courses in Chinese colleges and universities since the new century.Through the research on three different types of universities,it can be found that major colleges and universities pay more and more attention to humanities education since the new century. The proportion of foreign literature courses in the curriculum is much bigger, and the courses are becoming more rational.Although there are differences between the three universities, they have increased the number of foreign literature courses, lots of courses have been added to the study of meaningful foreign literature or works.Thesixth chapter is the conclusion, the prospect of future related research, and at the same time summarize the findings.Based on the analysis of various historical materials and the curricula of schools, this study draws the following conclusions: First,in the early days of the beginning of New China, the curriculum of foreign literature was mainly influenced by political policies. In order to cultivate students’ patriotism, schools opened a variety of history courses. There are fewer foreign literature courses and the research scope is large.Secondly, from the reform and opening-up to the end of the20 tn century, influenced by the state’s policy of attaching importance to economic development, the curriculum of colleges and universities has been adjusted and rationalized. The proportion of foreign literature courses has increased.Although the study mainly focus on the developed countries, the research content has begun to deepen.Thirdly,During this period, humanities education began to receive attention, and literary courses received more attention. No matter which type of colleges and universities, foreign literature courses accounted for a large proportion in this period, involving more national literature, the research is more extensive and the research content is more detailed.
