Since Zhou Zuoren's History of European Literature was published in 1918,the textbook compilation of the history of foreign literature has attracted much attention.However,few previous studies have explored how the development of modernization affects the textbook compilation of the history of foreign literature.Therefore,this paper takes the compilation of several classic foreign literature history textbooks since the reform and opening up as cases.On the basis of pedagogic-related theories,this paper takes the development of modernization as a background to compare,sorting out the similarities and differences among multiple textbooks,focusing on the impacts which the development of modernization exerts on its compilation.The influence mainly includes the politics,literature,education and ethical values of different periods from the reform and opening up to the present.The paper consists of seven chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.It explains the research motivation,defines the related concepts,explains the research purpose,content,significance and methods,and clarifies the idea of this paper.The second chapter reviews the research situation of the compilation of foreign literature history textbooks,and traces its origin in China.The third chapter is the theoretical basis of the research,including the learning theory of cognitivism and humanism,Bloom's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives.The fourth chapter discusses the preliminary exploration about the compilation of foreign literature history textbooks from 1978 to 1984.The reform and opening up started to show a new look of China.During this period,several foreign literature history textbooks began to display excellence in the transition from the "Leftism" trend to "seeking truth from facts".Comparing the similarities and differences among these textbooks,this chapter discusses how the political,educational,literary and ethical values modern development influenced the compilation.The fifth chapter explores the beginning of the diversification of foreign literature history textbooks from 1985 to 1999.During the period of prosperous culture and active thinking,several foreign literary history textbooks got rid of the influence of the cultural revolution,and began to diversify.Based on the theories of pedagogy,the progress and deficiencies of the compilation of several textbooks are analyzed.The impacts of political,educational,literary and ethical values modernization on the compilation of textbooks are clarified.The sixth chapter clarifies the deepening and advancement of compilation of foreign literature history textbooks from 2000 to the present.The compilation of foreign literary historytextbooks is changing with the new world pattern and new challenges.Based on the theories of pedagogy,this chapter explores the similarities and differences in the changes of the foreign literature history textbooks in the new century,clarifying the impact trend between the political,educational,literary,and ethical values modernization and the changes in compilation.The seventh chapter is the conclusion,which summarizes the findings,deficiencies,prospects of future research and gives appropriate suggestions.Based on historical data analysis and comparative study,the findings of this study ranging from the reform and opening up to the present shows: With the promotion of modernization,the changing trend of the compilation of foreign literature history textbooks can be divided into three periods:The first period is from 1978 to 1984,there were few types of foreign literature history textbooks,and class features were distinct at the beginning of the reform and opening up.The development of modernization was still dominated by politics,and the modernization of education,literature,and ethical values was relatively lagging behind,and foreign literature history textbooks tended to be political,while the educational,literary,and ethical values function of textbooks were ignored.The second period is from 1985 to 1999,modernization made a great progress.Political modernization given way to literary modernization.Education and ethical values also kept pace with overall modernization.The unprecedented prosperity of literary theories,the innovation of education,and the diversification of ethical values made the compilation of foreign literature history textbooks diverse,and the attributes of textbooks were prominent.However,the compiling concept and content were relatively backward compared to the field of literary research,and still far away from the history of foreign literature with Chinese characteristics.The third period is from 2000 to the present,the socialist modernization with Chinese characteristics has been continuously promoted.The diversification of the compilation of foreign literature history textbooks in China has continued to deepen and stabilize,and the informatization and diversification are significant,which involves the content,writing form and presentation method of textbooks.The gap between compiling textbooks and the field of literary research is narrowing,but there is still a long way to go before foreign literature history textbooks with Chinese characteristics appears.
