Finance In Suiyuan Area From Late Qing Dynasty To The Republic Of China

Finance plays a very important role in both the traditional self-sufficient economy and modern economy.After the Opium War in1840,the Great Powers were expanding their the scope of aggression against China,and foreign financial forces had also penetrated into China.With the gradual penetration of foreign financial power,the economic structure and nature of the whole society had changed,accordingly the monetary and financial system of the late Qing Dynasty suffered an unprecedented shock.Financial Institutions in Suiyuan area had formed two major forces:one is Traditional Financial Institutions represented by old-style Chinese private banks,exchange banks,etc;the other is a new type of financial institution represented by banks.As for currency circulation,there was the coexistence of various monetary forms,which formed an unprecedented complexity monetary system in Suiyuan history.From Late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China,all governmentswere committed to the modernization of finance and the unification of currency,therefore a number of measures had been taken.Under such background,the finance in Suiyuan had also gone through a process from chaos to gradual unification.In Suiyuan area,from the most popular exchange banks in the late Qing Dynasty to the prime of the Republic of China,to the establishment of the modern banks,the unification of Suiyuan financial institutions were gradually completed.Financial development is a long and complicated process,through which we find that modern banks are the direction of financial development in Suiyuan.In order to achieve this goal,a strong central government and a stable political situation must be ensured.Sorting out the financial situation of Suiyuan from late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China is helpful for us to better understand the history of Suiyuan during this period.
