On Bronze Arrowheads Of The State Of Zhao In The Warring States Period

Arrowheads are vital in the era of cold weapons.Bronze arrowheads excavated from the territory of the state of Zhao in the Warring States period were served as the subject in this study.On the ruins and historical relics unearthed from tombs was implemented a typological periodization and regionalization study.By a cultural factor analysis,the cultural communications and interactions reflected were given an elementary exploration.In line with the design of arrowheads of Zhao State,a simulation experiment was developed to observe the extent of practical injuries that arrowheads of different structures made on the muscles and bones.In the experiment,cooked cow skins and rattans were used respectively to imitate the leather armors and rattan armors of ancient times.Then,these materials were grouped for an observation of the injury degrees made by them on muscles and bones.Obtained traumatic degrees were tallied.After comparing and analyzing the experimental data,a post-restored reference value was provided accordingly.According to typological analysis,copper double-wings arrowheads were prevalent in the early Warring States period while copper trigone arrowheads popularized in the late of the period.With traditional double-wings arrowheads fading away,triple-wings arrowheads tended to be diversified and eventually evolved into trigone arrowheads.Known from the experiment,the shape of wound left by arrowheads was consistent with the weapon's cross section.The result is of reference value to determination of arrowhead structure.According to experimental data comparison,trigone arrowheads may have a wounding power stronger than that of traditional double-wings arrowheads.It can be inferred thereupon that there is a correlation between the prevailing of trigone arrowheads and waning of double-wings arrowheads in the late Warring States period and the wounding power of such kind of weapons.
