Chen Ang was called “ the first folk poet in Ming Dynasty”,but the academic circle has little concern of him.Here a systematic confirmation of the life,social inter course of Chen Ang and the various versions of <Collection of White Clouds>,and through learning the poetry in this book and the condition of Japanese pirates invading Xinghua,especially proving the issue of the birth and death time of Chen Ang which is still of much disputes and we have learned that he was born in 1524 or so and died in 1603.Considering the relevant records of Chen An's behaviors in his life in the historic materials and the poems in <Collection of White Clouds>,a work of sorting out his life around 1562(Japanese pirates invading and taking hold of Xinghua).The geography environment of Xinghua Prefecture was beautiful,the economic development was stable,and the humane cultural atmosphere was active,all helpful to the art of poetry of Chen Ang.In his middle age,he was forced by the Japanese pirates to leave the hometown and took up some humble profession,suffering in the journey: first he fled to Yuzhang,and wove in Pavilion Tengwangge,and 10 years later,he fled to search for help from his clan in Yuzhang.All these did not last long,and besides,he has gone to Hunan,Sichuan,travelled in Nanzhidi state,and finally he stayed in Jinling,dying near River Qinhuai.Sorting out his route of travelling,comparing the ancient and the contemporary names of places,making the outline drawing;taking <Collection of White Clouds> as the research text,the social communication with friends of Chen Ang has been counted,the focus being given to the influence of Yao Ruxun and Lin Gudu upon Chen Ang's life and his fame after his death;the publishing process of the various versions of<Collection of White Clouds> has been sorted out,and the three versions among them have been compared especially;Chen Ang's poetry was mainly following the ancient traditional styles,but it was full of personal features because of his special life experiences.By discussing the themes and artistic features of poems in<Collection of White Clouds>,we can get near to the spiritual world of the poet.
