An English Translation Report Of Anti-corruption Documentary Literary Work Meditations On The Original Aspiration (Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Text Type Theory

Since the 18^th CPC National Congress,the Communist Party of China has always regarded crackdown on corruption as the most important content for Party self-governance to be fully and strictly exercised.Corrupt officials have been punished with zero tolerance in order to build a clean and righteous society.In this situation,the anti-corruption documentary literary work Meditations on the Original Aspiration was issued.The book is written by a Chinese writer Ding Jie and contains eight real cases.It is an oral record of some officials falling from grace,which can be called a contemporary Crime and Punishment.The source text is an excerpt from the last two parts of the novel Meditations on the Original Aspiration.The translation report consists of introduction,translation process,theory review,case analysis and conclusion.The source text is divided into different types according to Reiss's Text Type theory,and various translation methods are employed for texts of different types.For informative texts,methods such as literal translation,paraphrase,imitation,word-for-word translation,transliteration and zero translation are mainly used;for the expressive text,literal translation,paraphrase,imitation and idiomatic translation are used as basic translation methods;methods such as literal translation and paraphrase are adopted for operative texts.For the mixed text,comprehensive methods are suggested with the aid of multiple translation techniques such as combination,addition and omission.On the one hand,in the translation report,specific examples are given concerning the application of Reiss's Text Type Theory in the translation,showing its advantages?such as its less limitation to certain translation strategies,its clarity in text type classification,its flexibility and adaptability to different texts?for guiding the translation of documentary works and providing references for studying the text typology.On the other hand,with the literary power,this report records some fallen officials'life tracks going astray into the abyss and demonstrates the Communist Party of China's determination to combat corruption for a clean government,and thus sounds the alarm for people at the crossroad of their life,and spreads positive values to the world.
