The source text of this translation practice report is selected from the anti-corruption documentary literature Meditations on the Original Aspiration.This book contains the oral recordings of the senior officials who fell from grace with the clue of the author's on-the-spot interviews,aiming to trace narrators' life courses through in-depth dialogues.Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory emphasizes readers' response,aiming at making the target readers get the same reading experience as the readers of the original text.The translator should seek the closest equivalence to make the translation as close as possible to the source text.The documentary texts have dual characteristics of authenticity and literariness,and focus on conveying real information and emotion.Hence Functional Equivalence Theory has certain guiding value for the translation of documentary literature.This report discusses the translation of Meditations on the Original Aspiration(excerpts)from the perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,this report aims to analyze the use of corresponding translation methods and techniques through specific cases from four aspects respectively of lexical,syntactic,textual and stylistic equivalence.The anti-corruption terms,Chinese idioms and long difficult sentences in the original text are also the key and difficult parts in the translation.The translation methods and techniques like transliteration plus annotation,literal translation,idiomatic translation,paraphrase,division and combination are used to facilitate the target readers' understanding.The purpose of this report is to deepen the application of Functional Equivalence Theory to translation through this translation practice,and to get new ideas on the translation of documentary literature from the case study.After this translation practice,the reporter realizes that the choices of translation methods and techniques depend on specific language features and contexts.The integrated application of different translation methods and techniques is essential in the translation of documentary literature works.
