In the modern history of China and the development of communistic art,Xinghai Xian,as a “musician for the people”,is an indelible figure.This is not only because of the numerous inspiring compositions he created during the Second World War,but also because of his important contributions to the new music movement,or his extraordinary role in cultivating new musical talent;more importantly,his loyalty to the communism cause,while he was trying to seek an original Chinese celebrity music development in the struggle and pain.In the process,he realized consciously and subconsciously the transition from "music for music's sake" to "music for the people" that has a significant positive impact on his future masterpiece.Because of this,in light of the current zeitgeist,it is necessary,in the unity of history and logic,the unity of theory and practice,the unity of tradition and modernism,the unity of personality and communality,to study his rise as a “musician for the people” and explore his transitioning from “music for music's sake” to “music for the people”,the multitudinous reasons behind the transition,the success of the transition and its influence both at the time and right now,so that new lights can be shed for the growths and benefits of new musicians.Chapter I: Mainly an investigation of Xian's musical as a whole,which consists of five main parts: Initiation(1912-1926),Xian being exposed to folk music in his early life and studied more music while he was a student with part time job;Growth(1926-1935),Xian studying music theory in music schools and cultivated his musicality;Transition(1935-1938),Xian expressing his disappointment in his music while exhibiting his talents to people acquainted on tour;Maturing(1938-1940): Xian reconsidering his music during his stay in Yan'an,composing his masterpiece Yellow River Cantata;Finesse(1940-1945)Xian keeping his music ideology alive while expatriating,trying to survive bleak circumstances with his music.Chapter II: Mainly an analysis of why Xian made the musical transition.First of all,the ever worsening sense of national crisis is a direct reason.Secondly,the spirit of people collectively waging the war against invasion drove Xian to start the transition of his music style Furthermore,that the communist party took particular interest in education was also a key reason behind why Xian made the transition.Then,the patriotism was the inner driving force of why Xian made the transition of his music.Lastly,the ever increasing understanding of Marxism and the acknowledgement of it also played an important role in Xian's transition.Chapter III: Mainly a discussion of the path of Xian's transition in music.Based on a careful study of source and careful interpretation of the deeper meanings,it is explained why Xian,with the legacy of musical movement,his exploration of folk music,his innovation in music,and his popularization of music,achieved the transition of his music.Chapter IV: Mainly a discussion of the legacy of Xian's music.First of all,the music contributed tremendously to national independence.Secondly,Xian played an effective role in the formation and spreading of Mao's ideal for arts.Furthermore,he was exemplary as an artist under the guidance of the Chinese communist party.Lastly;He provided a great role model for the growth and maturing of the younger generation of artists in Yan'anChapter V: Mainly the lessons of the transition of Xian's music.First,keeping up with time is a requirement for musicians in modern times.Secondly,working centered around people should be the guide for modern musicians.Thirdly,composing masterpieces for the people should be the goal for modern musicians.Lastly,to guide people with music made with virtue should be the main task for modern musicians.Conclusion: Mainly a summary of the study of Xian's transition in music,analyzing the problem and things to improve upon in the paper at the same time pinpointing to possible further studies about relevant topics.
