Research Of Reverse Culture Shock In American Third Culture Kids Who Have Lived In China

This paper researches the reverse culture shock experienced by third culture kids,specifically American citizens who have lived in China.As these American-Chinese third culture kids grew up in China and often traveled between the two countries,they naturally began to mix the mother country's(American)and the host country's(Chinese)cultures together to form a “third culture”.This third culture is neither completely American culture nor completely Chinese culture.American-Chinese third culture kids may encounter some unique cultural difficulties,including reverse culture shock.When returning to America from China,they may find that the once familiar culture has become unfamiliar,that they don't feel a cultural sense of belonging in the country,and instead deeply feel the frustrations that come with reverse culture shock.This paper is comprised of six sections.The introduction points out the meaning in researching the reverse culture shock of third culture kids from America who have lived in China;chapter one examines the stages of reverse culture shock;chapter two studies how reverse culture shock displays itself in the lives of third culture kids;chapter three clarifies the reasons behind reverse culture shock;chapter four searches for and offers solutions to combat reverse culture shock;and finally,the conclusion summarizes the entire paper.
