With the advent of language and digital symbol systems, the representation and processing of language and numbers have become an important part of human cognitive activities. In the past, researchers focused on the representation and processing of words, and relatively few studies on digital representation and processing.Numbers are abstract languages that, like words, have glyph, phonetic, and semantic characteristics. At the same time, because each nation has its own unique language, culture and beliefs, the numbers are stained with a strong national color and special cultural connotation.Different language systems make different numbers in each language, that is,symbolic numbers.Different symbol numbers will affect the processing performance of numbers and even mathematical results. There are many ethnic minorities in China, and the mathematical education of ethnic minorities has always been relatively weak.Existing studies have tried to find the reasons for the weak mathematics education of ethnic minorities from the perspective of mathematics education and national culture. From the perspective of digital representation, this study selects Tibetan students with a large population and the most troubled mathematics study as subjects.By examining the symbolic digital representation of Tibetan-Chinese bilinguals, this study attempts to reveal the mathematical characteristics of minority students from the perspective of numbers and provide ethnic mathematics education The choice of strategy provides a new perspective and theoretical basis. The study found that, whether it is a specific word or an abstract word, the bilingual vocabulary is independently represented by the proficient bilinguals, and the semantics is a common representation. Then, for the abstract language—numbers, how do bilinguals represent symbolic numbers in different language forms? For example, for Tibetan-Chinese bilinguals, they not only master the Arabic numerals of international digits, but also the Tibetan numerals of the mother tongue and the Chinese numerals of the second language. So how do these three different forms of symbolic numbers be represented in the minds of Tibetan-Chinese bilinguals? This is the focus of this study. The purpose of this study is to systematically investigate the situation of bilingual sign representation from the lexical level, the semantic level, and the unique spatial level of numbers through three experiments.Previous studies have found that language proficiency is the main factor affecting bilingual representations. In order to exclude the effect of language proficiency on experimental results, this study first examines the symbolic digital representation of bilinguals.Experiment 1 examines the characteristics of symbolic digital representation of Tibetan-Chinese bilinguals from a lexical level. The research adopts the cross-language long-term repetitive start-up paradigm. The task is to judge the true and false numbers of different forms of symbolic numbers. It was found that the three types of symbolic numbers had no priming effect under cross-lingual conditions. This indicates that the three symbol numbers of Tibetan-Chinese bilinguals are independently represented at the lexical level.Experiment 2 examines the characteristics of symbolic digital representation of Tibetan-Chinese bilinguals from a semantic level. The research adopts the cross-language long-term repeated initiation paradigm. The task is to make semantic judgments of different forms of symbolic numbers, that is,parity. It was found that significant semantic priming effects appeared under the same language and cross-language conditions. This shows that the three symbols of Tibetan-Chinese bilinguals have the common semantic representation.Compared with words, numbers have spatial uniqueness. The combined effect of space-digital response coding(SNARC effect)is one of the important effects of digital space representation. In Experiment 3,we will examine the SNARC effect of symbolic numbers. It was found that there are SNARC effects in the three symbol numbers of Tibetan-Chinese bilinguals, and the directions of the SNARC effects of the three symbol numbers are the same.Based on the above experiments, this study draws the following conclusions:(1)The vocabulary of the three symbol numbers of the proficient Tibetan-Chinese bilingual is stored independently and the semantics are stored together;(2)The three symbol numbers of proficient Tibetan-Chinese bilinguals have a large and small spatial representation, and their directions are the same.(3)Symbolic and digital representations of bilinguals have similarities and uniqueness with linguistic word representations.
