In today’s society, more and more attention is paid to special groups. With continuous expansion of disabled children groups, the difficulties and pressures faced by disabled children’s parents also need urgent attention and resolution.Disabled children’s parents are important resources in special education, because they play an irreplaceable role in the evaluation, placement, education and training of disabled children, and provide long-term and stable support for children’s life and growth. However, according to the current level of medical treatment,it is difficult for a large number of disabled children to recover to the level of living alone, with means that they need other people’s care throughout their lives. This will have a long-term physical and psychological burden on parents and will continue to affect the physical and mental health of their parents.Since the family is an important place for the rehabilitation and growth of disabled children, their parents play a vital role in the development of their children.Parents’ self-efficacy beliefs will affect their parenting behaviors, and their parenting effectiveness is so significantly relative to the rehabilitation of children that it is one of important affecting factors. Therefore, this study uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods to investigate the parental self-efficacy status of disabled children’s parents, and meanwhile interviewing the disabled children’s parents with high parental self-efficacy to explore the parenting process of raising disabled children. This study consists of the following two parts:The first part: questionnaire research.By using the "Parental Self-Efficacy Questionnaire for Disabled Children",a total of 274 valid subjects were selected to measure the parental self-efficacy status of disabled children’s parents and analyze their differences in demographic variables such as age, gender, and types of child disorders.Parents of disabled children who scored in the top 27% were selected as subjects with high parental self-efficacy.The second part: Qualitative research.According to the research needs,a purposeful sampling method was used to select a total of 14 disabled children’s parents with high parental self-efficacy who are qualified to provide the largest amount of information and willing to be interviewed as interviewees to explore the parenting process of raising disabled children. Finally a parenting model for disabled children’s parents with high parental self-efficacy was developed based on the above results. The conclusions of the study are as follows:First, the parental self-efficacy of disabled children’s parents is generally at the middle-to-upper level. The order of each dimension’s scores from high to low is: daily life care, management of problem behaviors, learning guidance and rehabilitation training.Second, the parental self-efficacy level of disabled children’s parents differs significantly in four variables: employment status, the number of children, the length of treatment for the child, and the type of child disorder.Third, the parenting process of disabled children’s parents with high self-efficacy includes four stages, including collision stage, confused and avoidance stage, adaptation stage, and stable transcendence stage. Each stage includes cognitive process, emotional process and will process.Fourth, personal factors of parents, personal factors of children, native family interaction patterns and relationship belief patterns, diseases’ characteristics and treatments, upbringing load and stigma, rational responses to negative situations,self-adjustment,self-compassion,resilience,and social culture and support systems all influence the parenting process of disabled children’s parents with high parental self-efficacy.
