The “English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education” formulated by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China in 2011 states that English courses in compulsory education should face all students,embody the idea of student-centered,consider the development needs of all students in teaching objectives,teaching content,teaching process,teaching evaluation and the development of teaching resources.The English course should be a process for students to build knowledge,develop skills,broaden their horizons,think actively,and show their personality under the guidance of teachers.Due to the differences in age,personality,cognitive style,and living environment,students have different learning needs and learning characteristics.Only by maximizing individual needs can it be possible to obtain maximum overall teaching benefits.Therefore,it needs be guided by scientific theories to achieve this goal.English homework is the natural extension of classroom teaching,which has great influence on the quality of English teaching,so it is indispensable in primary school English teaching.However,the author has found from six years of English teaching practice in primary schools that English homework has not been given enough attention,many teachers always arrange mechanical and single English homework.Students feel bored and disgusted when they finish their homework.This can easily make students lose their interest in learning English.Therefore,it is very necessary to investigate and study English homework design of primary schools.The research subjects of this paper is three English teachers in the fifth grade of K Elementary School,Xinxiang,Henan Province.Based on the PEP of the grade-five primary school English textbook,by collecting homework activities of the first semester,the author discusses the relevant content of the theory of multiple intelligences with the three English teachers,tries to make them redesign homework activities based on the theory of multiple intelligences,then interviews them one by one to explore the differences and reasons between the two homework design activities.The interviewing shows that teachers are trying their best to design English homework from the perspective of multiple intelligences theory,but it is very difficult to change their thinking about homework design in short time,so there are still many shortcomings.In order to solve the problem,the author tries to find the excellent homework design in foreign countries,combining with the actual situation of English teaching in our country,the author puts forward some suggestions.Then,combining with the theory of multiple intelligences,the author gives new homework activity cases for each unit of the fifth grade primary school English textbook of PEP.How to make full use of the theory of multiple intelligences to guide the design of primary school English homework to achieve better teaching effects and cultivate students' strong learning interest is the main content of this thesis.Through this study,the author can obtain the following findings:(1)The current English homework is monotonous both in content and types,which mainly focuses on copying or reciting the knowledge of the textbook;(2)From the interviews with the three English teachers and their new homework design,it can be seen that the MI theory can be applied in the primary school English homework design;(3)After consulting some excellent English homework design at home and abroad,the author finds out that English homework design based on the theory of multiple intelligences is easy to break the traditional form and content of the homework,which makes the homework flexible and students might be more interested in.
