Headwear refers to everything wrapped around the head.It is an important element of ancient Chinese dress culture,and is closely related to the national system,identity level,and even social customs and moral ethics.The figuline tomb figurines are humanoid statuettes used for burying with dead,which have played a significant role in funerary objects since Qin Dynasty.The tombs of the Northern Wei Dynasty were mostly buried with figuline figurines.The system of using figuline figurines during this period is fixed,which inherited from the Han and Jin dynasties,and inspired the Sui and Tang Dynasties.The group of figuline figurines can reflect the reality of the particular crowd in society to a certain extent.The development and changes of the figuline figurines' headwear of the Northern Wei Dynasty can reflect the origin and development of the particular crowd's headwear at that time.A total of 51 tombs with figuline figurines unearthed in the Northern Wei Dynasty were distributed in six central areas,namely Shengle Central Area,Datong Central Area,Luoyang Central Area,Yecheng Central Area,Western Area and Qingqi Area.A total of 1357 figuline figurines in these tombs were ornamented by headwear,including the guardian terracotta warriors,the travel-ceremonial figurines,the artistic-performing figurines and the figurines working in the kitchen.According to the research of shape for headwear of the figuline figurines,the figuline figurines' headwear of in the Northern Wei Dynasty have continuously developed which have gone through four stages.The main categories of figurines' headwear including the helmers,the hats,the crests and the kerchief,different types have undergone different changes at various stages of development.At the same time,under the overall development law,the development of figurines' headwear in different regions has its ownregional characteristics.In general,the figuline tomb figurines' headwear of the Northern Wei Dynasty showed a gradual trend of Han-translation,but affected by objective conditions and historical background,the speed and process of Han-translation in different regions were different.At the same time,the regime change and national integration in the Northern Wei Dynasty also made the appearance of the figurines' headwear include characteristics of the Xianbei nationality,the Han nationality and the western minority nationality.
