A Study Of Hauser's View On The History Of Art And Society

Arnold Hauser is not only an influential European art historian and art philosopher in the last century,but also one of the founders of art sociology.He founded his viewpoint on the social history of art and philosophical theory of art history based on his attention paid to the cognitive dimension of art.In this study,with Hauser's viewpoint on the social history of art as the research object,the methods,perspectives and concepts involved in his investigation on art history were analyzed from a sociological perspective.The study was carried out in three aspects,namely Hauser's life experience,Hauser's viewpoint on the social history of art as well as his main achievements and theoretical contributions.In Chapter 1,Hauser's scholarly researches and the origin of his academic thoughts were primarily investigated,and the formation of his academic thoughts was summarized based on an overview of his life experience,background and the development of art theory in his era.In Chapter 2,based on The Social History of Art by Hauser and his viewpoints on art history reflected in his main monographs,relevant discussions were conducted from four perspectives,namely the “complicated relationship between art and society”,“social environment determinism of art”,“conventions of art” and “multiple approaches of studying art history”.In Chapter 3,Hauser's main achievements and the contributions he made to the social history of art were reviewed.First of all,the main achievements of Hauser in art history were summarized.Secondly,Hauser's theoretical contributions to the art history were objectively evaluated and analyzed,and his sociological viewpoint was further explored.
