How to identify the guide signs and form the spatial representation of road network is the key problem of traffic psychology research. The research on the influence of text layout on reading behavior found that both Chinese and Mongolian, the text layout will affect their cognitive processing. In the past, the research on bilingual guide signs only stays in the horizontal layout mode, and the influence of information quantity on drivers. The influence of typesetting on driver's guide sign recognition and road spatial relationship cognition was not fully understood.Inner Mongolia is a minority area inhabited by Mongolian people, the guide signs are both Mongolian and Chinese. However, there are differences between Mongolian and Chinese in terms of text layout, visual recognition and understanding. Therefore, according to two typical guide signs in Hohhot, this study analyzes influence of text layout on Mongolian Chinese bilingual guide sign recognition. Two kinds of typical guide signs are bilingual guide signs with 3 road names and bilingual guide signs with 5 road names. In this paper, two experiments are designed, all of which are mixed experiments of three factors. In the first experiment, the effects of text layout(horizontal layout, vertical layout)and language(Mongolian,Chinese)on the road sign recognition of subjects with different driving experience under the condition of simple bilingual road signs were discussed and the cognition of road spatial relationship were discussed.Experiment 2,we discussed the effects of text layout(horizontal layout, vertical layout)and language(Mongolian,Chinese)on the road sign recognition of subjects with different driving experience under the condition of Complex bilingual guide signs were discussed and the cognitionof road spatial relationship were discussed;text layout and language are the internal variables, driving experience is the inter variable. The following results are obtained:(1)Under the condition of simple task,Chinese horizontal arrangement is conducive to the judgment of road spatial relationship, while Mongolian vertical arrangement is conducive to the judgment of road spatial relationship; The test subjects with driving experience judged Chinese tasks faster than Mongolian tasks.(2)Under the condition of complex task, the horizontal row of road names above the guide sign is conducive to the judgment of road space, and the vertical row of road names on both sides of the guide sign is conducive to the judgment of road space relationship;Subjects with driving experience completed Chinese tasks faster than those without driving experience; The subjects without driving experience completed the Mongolian vertical task faster than the Mongolian horizontal task. Finally, according to the results of the study, some suggestions are put forward for making Mongolian Chinese bilingual guide signs:(1)The layout of bilingual road names of simple bilingual guide signs is horizontal in Chinese and vertical in Mongolian.(2)The road names above the complex bilingual guide signs shall be written in horizontal row,and the road names on both sides shall be written in vertical row.
