Teaching materials such as General Situation in China are important supports for the teachers in teaching Chinese as a foreign language and also one of the authoritative learning materials for students.Through learning this course,students can comprehensively master Chinese cultural knowledge and reduce the communicative problems because of the cultural obstruction.Pros and cons in compiling the teaching materials such as General Situation in China have the direct effects on the teaching Chinese as a foreign language as well as the talent training quality,so it is very important to study them.This paper selects Professor Cheng Aimin's Overview of China published by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press in 2018 and Professor Wang Shunhong's Profile of China reprinted by Beijing University Press in 2015 as the study object to compare their structures and contents,explore their success and defects and offer some improving suggestions for their future compiling.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter mainly introduces the background and significance of the topic,surveys the previous research results,and expounds the research objects and methods of this paper.The second chapter analyzes the structures of the two textbooks,including their arrangement system,format design,illustrations and tables.The third chapter analyzes the content of the two textbooks,such as object-oriented teaching materials,the similarities and differences of co-selected contents,the arrangement of exercises.The fourth chapter based on the principles of knowledge,scientificity and systematicnes in the constructivist educational theory and offers some specific suggestions on the existing problems and imperfections of the two textbooks,for example some special chosen questions are lacking interestingness and practicability and the models of exercises remain monotonous.The fifth chapter is the conclusion part.All in all,after tested by teaching both of the textbooks are very practicalChinese cultural teaching materials,as they are adopting the form of specific lectures and aiming at showing the ancient and modern Chinese cultural knowledge.But the future compilers of the same textbooks cannot ignore those problems,such as choosing the object-oriented teaching materials,increasing their chosen contents' practicability,interestingness and epochality.At the same time,they should also increase the creativity and communication of their exercises and provide the reference materials and keys to exercises related to textbooks.
