The Eighth Symphony was composed in 1906-1907 and consists of two movements.It premiered in Munich on September 12,1910,and was directed by Gustav Mahler(1860-1911)himself.This symphony is strictly a vocal symphony,with choruses,unisons,and solos throughout the whole song.The lyrics of the first movement are selected from the Latin hymn "Invite the Creator's Holy Spirit" written by Archbishop Verabanus Maurus of the 9th century.The second movement is based on the lyrics of the final scene of the "Valley" scene in the second part of Goethe's "Faust".Placing the work in a relevant historical context and combining musical text analysis with cultural interpretation(interpretation)is an important research idea.Text analysis refers to the analysis of the music text and the overall structure of the eighth symphony.Cultural interpretation is based on the analysis of music texts and put the Eighth Symphony in the cultural context of its creation to understand.In this way,it can be seen that "The Eighth Symphony" fully expresses Mahler's creative principles and concepts.Based on the above research ideas and methods,the thesis is divided into four chapters,which are Mahler and the Eighth Symphony;social and cultural investigations;analysis of the structure and musical theme of the Eighth Symphony;the eighth symphony Artistic connotation.Among them,the first chapter is divided into two sections of Mahler's artistic experience and the production of musical works;the second chapter discusses the social and cultural environment and the production of musical works;the third chapter discusses the lyrics text analysis,music analysis,music The unity analysis analyzes three points;the fourth chapter analyzes from the aspects of who wrote the work for,the drama of music,and Mahler's religious view.In the conclusion,the author summarizes Mahler's creative principles and artistic concepts,that is,between music and drama,drama is the goal,music is the means of drama development;between music and religion,music is the subject,and religion in Mahler's works.The related content of nature exists with the needs of music development,and cannot be added or deleted at will.
