After the failure of the The First Sino-Japanese war,the Chinese changed their views on Japan,a small country. The reformers and Westernizers began to advocate learning from Japan.Under the proposal of Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao, the Qing government sent officials to inspect Japanese education affairs.Since then, all parts of the country have begun to visit Japan for education at their own expense or by official dispatch. The economy of modern Jiangxi Province is depressed and the education is backward, but the earliest self-funded investigation group of China has appeared. The members of the investigation group left diaries of educational investigation that recorded the whole investigation process. The reality of Japanese education has left a deep impression on every investigator, which is of positive significance for them to return home to engage in school management or education administration. These diaries are also of great significance for understanding the Japanese educational investigation in Jiangxi Province. This study focuses on the investigation diaries of educational investigators in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China and analyzes the investigation process in detail. The contents are mainly divided into the following parts:1、In the course of Meiji Restoration,Japan reformed education, developed military and learned from western countries. After the school system was promulgated in 1872,the modern educational system began to be established, which provided a large number of political, military and economic talents for the social development of Japan. This reform led directly to Japan’s victory over the Qing Dynasty in the The First Sino-Japanese war. After the defeat, the Chinese began to reflect on the reasons for Japan’s strength, and many enlightened people began to report to the throne that they should learn from Japan for education system.2、The Qing government formulated the policy of investigating Japan’s education. And then the whole country sent educational investigation missions to Japan by government or at their own expense.Among the investigators, there are both officials and squires and educational practitioners.Although the economy of Jiangxi Province has been declining and the education has been backward since modern times, there are many enlightened people who advocate reform and even go to Japan at their own expense to investigate the fields of education and industry, hoping to make a little contribution to the progress of Jiangxi. Some of them recorded the investigation process in detail and provided reference of new type of education for people in educational circles.3、 In the process of educational investigation, the investigators not only carefully investigated Japanese education, but also visited educators and Jiangxi’s overseas students,to varying degrees who had positive impacts on the development of modern education in Jiangxi and even the whole country. These figures are the forerunners in the educational reform of Jiangxi and even the whole country so that they are necessary for further study.
