| This report is based on the reporter's understanding of intelligent logistics industries and his own practical experience.The translation project analyzes the application of new technologies and new business modes of domestic and overseas leading enterprises in intelligent logistics fields and discusses the influence of intelligent logistics on logistics industries.The project is an informative text.Its structure is well-knit,but there are many long sentences,most of which have no subjects.For the reporter,translating the non-subject sentences is a challenge.In this report,he divides the major difficulties into two kinds:(1)difficulties in translating absolute non-subject sentences;(2)difficulties in translating relative non-subject sentences.M.A.K.Halliday,a British linguist,put forward systemic-functional grammar in the late 1950 s.Systematic-functional grammar mainly studies the social functions of the language.Halliday believes that a language has three meta-functions: conceptual function,communicative function and textual function.Language exists in the context,and the formation of discourse is inseparable from the context.Systemic-functional grammar focuses on the study of a clause which can directly reflect the three meta-functions at semantic level.With the framework of Halliday's systemic-functional grammar,by analyzing the clause structure and context,two solutions are respectively provided according to the features of absolute nonsubject sentences and relative non-subject sentences:(1)using passive voice and formal subject “it” to translate absolute non-subject sentences;(2)restructuring sentence pattern and adding appropriate subject to translate relative non-subject sentences.It is shown that the above methods can effectively solve the translation problems in the project,which will hopefully provide useful guidance and reference for the reporter and other translators to finish the C-E translation of intelligent logistics texts. |
