This thesis starts from the relationship between Jia Pingwa and Chinese contemporary literature for forty years, from the interactive perspective of works interpretation, literary criticism and literary history writing, focusing on the representative works such as Shangzhou chulu,Turbulence,Ruined City and Qinqiang Opera, tries to answer three questions.First,to talk the misplacement and contact between literary history in the view of "root-seeking literature" and his personal cognition, explaining that "root-seeking literature" cannot cover his creation.Second,to discuss whether the Ruined City is "urban literature" and discuss the narrowness of modernity evaluation. The third is to discuss the issue of post-modern local literature writing around the contention of Qinqiang Opera. This paper argues that Jia Pingwa is closely related to the literary trend of each period, and his classical pursuit shows a tendency to write against anti-modernity,leaving a special experience for Chinese contemporary novels. He insists on nationalized writing, but he still has a long way to go in the depth of thought from the world of literary classics. The introduction section explains that there is a huge tension between Jia Pingwa and contemporary literary trends, defining the meaning of “historicalization” and “classification” and clarifying their ways, namely search for root-seeking text,anti-modernity in urban writing and native writing in the postmodern context. The second part explores the tension between the identification of literary history and Jia Pingwa's self-cognition in the perspective of "root-seeking literature".Adopting literary history retrospective method, sorting out how the "Shangzhou" series of novels have been included in the literary history of "root-seeking literature" in the criticism of critics, expounding the dislocation of Jia Pingwa's pursuit of writing national literature and the root-seeking literature in the sense of "traditional culture".It explains that the critics have expanded the theoretical extension, but Jia Pingwa has established the writing goal of national literature since the 1980 s,that's why he can maintain his literary personality at different times, not blindly from all kinds of literary trends. The third part discusses whether the Ruined City is "urban literature" and the narrowness of modernity evaluation.Through literature research and text analysis,we find that there is a contradiction between Ruined City which follows the classical context and the evaluation criteria of modernity.Proposing literary research should avoid the narrowness of the evaluation of literary "modernity" and open up the literary evaluation horizon. The fourth part discusses the issue of post-modern local literature writing around the contention of Qinqiang Opera. We find that Qinqiang Opera satisfies the expectations of postmodern native literature and the call of local literary creation. Therefore, postmodern native literature will not die,it challenges local writers in the contemporary, locality and classic style of literature. The conclusion part clarifies that Jia Pingwa is based on the literary trend with his grasp of the trend of the times and literature, and his classical pursuit contradicts with the main trend of contemporary literature pursuing "modernity".Jia Pingwa who has literary temperament has insisted on nationalization writing for forty years. However,he is in trouble in the depth of his thoughts, and it is difficult for him to catch up with literary classics in the world.
