This report originates from the medical translation project for welfare institutions commissioned by Gladney Center for Adoption. The author is the project manager of this translation project, who forms a translation team with eight graduate students majoring in translation.During the process of translation project management, many factors tend to compromise the success of this medical translation project, which refer to translational risks including the operational risk, strategic risk, schedule risk and quality risk. This report, written based on the author's double role as the translator and the project manager as well as her translation and risk management experience, discusses risks involved in this medical translation project and provides corresponding management solutions. The author first uses a questionnaire to collect risk rating from team members and carries on an in-depth analysis of four main kinds of risks, namely operational risk, translation strategic risk, schedule risk and quality risk.Operational risk is involved in the whole process of project implementation, which requires the project manager to formulate a standard workflow for reference.Translation strategic risk is triggered by the nature of translation tasks. Therefore, the project manager needs to specify clear translation strategies for guiding translation activities based on text types of translation projects.Schedule risk refers to the problem of punctuality for project delivery,so prompt schedule control is essential.Quality risk in this medical translation project refers to the quality of translation work.In order to guard against quality risk, the project manager needs to take various measures, such as establishing partnership between translators and revisers as well as term management. At last, the author implements risk evaluation and summarizes risk management methods in this medical project.
