With the deepening of education reform,the development of basic English education in rural areas has been widely concerned.The professional development level of English teachers in rural primary schools is directly related to the quality of English Teaching in rural primary schools.The country needs a rural education team with high quality.Although the country has increased the training of rural primary school English teachers,due to the fact that primary school English teachers are at the basic position of the education system and have limited voice,the country lacks the cognitive approach to the development status of rural primary school English teachers and their perceives,which leads to the current level of professional development of rural teachers is far from meeting the needs of education development.Based on three fields of teachers' professional standards: professional concept and ethics,professional knowledge and professional ability.The author puts forward two research questions: 1.What's the current situation of English teachers' professional development in Xinbin county of Liaoning province? 2.How do primary school English teachers perceive teachers' professional development? For the second research question,it is divided into two sub questions: what are the difficulties of English teachers' professional development in Xinbin rural primary schools? What kind of professional development approach or approaches are English teachers looking forward to? By using the method of questionnaire,72 English teachers from primary schools in Xinbin county of Liaoning province were investigated.After the questionnaires were collected,the researcher sorted out the valid ones and analyzed the data with the help of the computer.In addition,an in-depth interview was conducted to six of the participants,who were selected according to teaching experience.The results are as follows: in the aspect of teachers' professional development,the current situation of rural primary school,English teachers' professional development is not optimistic.There are unreasonable phenomena in teaching age,education background,professional title and specialty.Although the questionnaire shows that the overall level of teachers' professional concept and ethics,professional knowledge as well as professional ability is high,there are still some deficiencies in students' development knowledge,teaching design ability,etc.,which need to be improved.In the aspect of teachers' professional development difficulties,due to teachers' weak awareness of their own professional development,inaccurate understanding of the current situation of their own professional development,and the influence of external factors,teachers cannot improve their own development level.The results show that the external difficulties of teachers' professional development are greater than the internal ones,and there is still much work to be done to improve the level of teachers' professional development.In the aspect of teachers' professional development approaches,teachers' demand for professional development is more inclined to the communication between colleagues and the guidance of experts.This study also hopes to provide some inspiration for the follow-up research on the professional development of teachers.
