In order to develop compulsory education completely,the education department proposes that English should become a compulsory course of primary school from Grade 3.In the past few years,primary school English education has been developed.However,due to the limited resources,English education of rural areas fall behind English education of cities.As a result,it will block professional development,and cannot satisfy the need of English teaching.In rural primary school,school leaders' ignoring English,English teachers' heavy teaching task,under-developed teaching method,monotonous teaching means and boring teaching content have been limiting teachers' self-development.In such severe situation,it is very important for these English teachers to enhance their professional development.Based on questionnaire and interview,this essay aims to survey the current situation of teachers' professional development of rural primary school in Dongzhi district Chizhou city.The investigating content of rural primary school teachers includes: basic information,professional knowledge,professional capacity,training and so on.By analyzing the investigation data,this study aims to probe into following problems: incomplete professional knowledge structure,low professional capacity,incorrect professional attitude,considerable teaching task and slim chance of training.In order to solve these problems,the following strategies are proposed:Firstly,English teachers should build firm sense of professional development,update professional knowledge timely,improve professional capacity and establish upright professional attitude.Secondly,school leaders should optimize administrative system,choose effective training methods and establish scientific assessment system.The research result may provide hints for the professional development of English teachers in rural primary schools.
