Homework design is a vital part of English teaching,interesting and vivid homework can arouse students' learning interests and learning initiative.However,for a long time,English homework did not achieve the desired effect in primary school.Homework does not motivate students' interests and many students do not have interests and passion for doing homework.Several reasons lead to this result: First,homework is boring and repetitive.Second,the structure of homework is single and boring.Third,the objectives of homework are not clear.Fourth,homework design lacks features.Multiple Intelligence Theory(MIT)elaborates on the differences between people and triggers a new set of educational idea.Howard Gardner defined intelligence as “the capacity of an individual to solve real problems or produce and create effective products within the values of a social and cultural setting''(Gardner,1983).This research takes two classes of Grade Four in PuYu School as subjects.A termlong study about homework assignment based on Multiple Intelligence Theory(MIT)was conducted.This research adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods.The main research tools include questionnaire,interview,pre-test,post-test and so on.This study aims at knowing students' feelings about homework and exploring the features of homework based on MIT and how to practice it to stimulate students' learning potential and develop their multiple intelligence.Through research,investigation and analysis,this study found that: First,the form,content and style of current homework assignment in primary school is relatively simple.The quality of homework is low,and the idea of homework assignment is outdated,so the effect of homework is not so ideal.Second,this study tries to provide some new ways of homework content,style,that is,layered homework assignment for different level students,homework content covering one or several kinds of intelligence.At last,this study deems that homework based on MIT can improve students' multiple intelligence development and comprehensive language application ability and it is suitable for English teaching.Sincerely hope this study can provide some meaningful references for teachers about English assignment.
