English picture books with their rich colors,concise language and illustrated arrangement,are easy to stimulate students' thirst for knowledge.In recent years,English picture books have been widely used in English teaching in primary schools in China.However,in actual teaching,students in the first grade of primary school have a relatively low understanding of English picture books,a low frequency of reading English picture books and a low degree of confidence.Most students have no access to English picture books.For teachers,how effective English picture-book teaching is,how to choose suitable English picture book for students,and how to coordinate the relationship between English picture-book teaching and conventional English teaching have become topics of concern to educators.The first grade of primary school is the beginning grade of compulsory education.Teachers' reasonable development and utilization of curriculum resources is an important guarantee for the effective implementation of English curriculum.This study is guided by cognitive development theory,constructivist learning theory,input hypothesis in second language acquisition theory,and overall language teaching theory.This study integrates English picture books with the current first-year English textbook "happy English"(volume 1)in Tianjin.Through questionnaire surveys and interview for teachers,this study aims to understand the cognition status of students in Grade One on English picture books and find out the problems in English teaching practice.The SPSS data analysis tool was used to analyze data.Throwing out suggestions for teachers to carry out English picture-book teaching more effectively.The results show that the application of English picture books in English classroom teaching in the first grade of primary school can enhance students' interest in English learning,enhance their oral English expression ability and confidence,and provide dynamic support for the improvement of students' subsequent English reading ability.English picture books bring vivid,real and vivid language to students.Students can acquire language in a relaxed atmosphere,which is conducive to the improvement of their comprehensive quality.
