With the development of international relations and educational cooperation,more and more international students choose to study in China.One of the second language teaching aims is to cultivate Chinese learners' intercultural communication ability.This thesis starts by clarifying the theory of intercultural communication ability,takes international students and elementary Chinese comprehensive course teachers as the research objects,uses questionnaire survey,classroom observation and informal interview to investigate and analyze the cultivation of intercultural communication ability in elementary Chinese comprehensive course.The thesis can be divided into five chapters.The background,significance,research content,methods and ideas are introduced in the first chapter.The second chapter expounds the research on intercultural communication ability and intercultural awareness,sensitivity,effectiveness and the cultivation of intercultural communication ability in teaching.The third and fourth chapter are the research process.Firstly,intercultural awareness,intercultural sensitivity and intercultural effectiveness scale of Chen are used to investigate the intercultural communication ability of international students.Secondly,observing chart is used to understand the process of cultivating intercultural communication ability of international students in China.Finally,supplying the survey by interviewing international students and elementary Chinese comprehensive course teachers.The fifth chapter draws conclusions from the aspect of intercultural awareness(cognition),intercultural sensitivity(emotion)and intercultural effectiveness(behavior).Meanwhile,specific suggestions for improving the intercultural communication ability of international students are being put forward not only to international students but also to the elementary Chinese comprehensive course teachers:(1)in terms of cognition,based on the survey results of low averageintercultural awareness,the international students in China should cultivate their own cultural equality awareness,and elementary Chinese comprehensive course teachers should improve their intercultural cultivation awareness and attach importance to emotional goals in teaching objectives;(2)in terms of emotion,based on the fact of the average value of intercultural sensitivity is the highest,but the average value of the five dimensions of intercultural sensitivity is unbalanced and relevant,the international students should pay attention to the cultivation of cultural knowledge,and elementary Chinese comprehensive course teachers should adopt multimedia teaching methods to increase the awareness,understanding and interest of international students in Chinese culture.That is also called the process from understanding cognition to emotional acceptance;(3)in terms of behavior,based on the fact of the intercultural effectiveness of international students in China is unbalanced and correlated,and a high degree of participation in the elementary Chinese comprehensive class is showed.The international students are suggested to participate in cultural practice activities,and elementary Chinese comprehensive course teachers should create a communication situation environment to provide opportunities for international students to communicate.In a word,this thesis aims at the results of the questionnaire survey and the classroom observation of the elementary Chinese comprehensive course for the international students and the elementary Chinese comprehensive course teachers.Although there are still some deficiencies in this thesis,the researcher hope that it can help international students to solve intercultural communication problems and make some contributions to improve their intercultural communication ability.
