A Study On The New Youth Intellectuals' View Of Chinese Traditional Culture

In the early years of the Republic of China,yuan shikai attempted to restore the monarchy by respecting Confucius,which aroused the public's indignation.At that time,some advanced intellectuals took the New Youth as the carrier to write one after another articles against yuan shikai's restoration of the imperial system,and made a macro to micro comment on Chinese traditional culture.They re-examined Chinese culture from the perspective of comparing Chinese and western cultures,pointed out the overall backwardness of Chinese traditional culture,criticized Confucianism,Confucian religion and Confucius,and commented on mohism,Taoism,yin-yang and other theories.They challenged the authority of Confucian classics and opposed the unification of ideology and culture by Confucianism.They accused Confucianism of not adapting to modern life and pointed out that Confucianism and the republic were incompatible.It was believed that mohism is good at defending,.Taoism was better than Confucianism,and its basic proposition was characterized by negative resistance to the society.Among them,the criticism of Confucianism is the main content.Due to the turbulence of the current situation and the urgent desire to save the nation,the New Youth's discussion on traditional Chinese culture inevitably bears the distinctive brand of The Times,which has both positive significances and historical limitations.On the one hand,the New Youth's discussion on traditional Chinese culture promoted the ideological liberation,cultural progress and political reform at that time.On the other hand,the New Youth's discussion on traditional Chinese culture lack of systematic and academic interpretation.They emphasis on the differences of Chinese and western culture,while ignoring the inclusiveness of Chinese culture.Democracy and science ideas cannot make up for the blank lacking of Chinese traditional culture.In fact,the task of cultural reconstruction at that time was not completed.Taking history as a mirror,today we are carrying out creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese traditional culture.We should not only correctly distinguish the essence from the dregs of traditional culture,criticize and inherit Chinese traditional culture,but also learn from the western civilization,cultivate the spirit of creativity and promote cultural innovation.
