Objective:(1)Studying the relationship between self-esteem and suicidal ideation in college freshmen from explicit and implicit perspectives;(2)Exploring the impact of self-esteem on implicit suicidal ideation in college freshmen in the context of frustration. Methods: 1.Study 1:In study 556 college students from a university in Shanxi Province were selected to issue self-compiled personal situation questionnaire,self-rating scale of suicidal ideation,self-esteem scale and patient health questionnaire-depression subscale to explore the predictive power of self-esteem on suicidal ideation among college freshmen.2.Study 2:In study 2,according to the score of the self-esteem scale in the first study,145 subjects were selected, including 73 in the high self-esteem group and 72 in the low self-esteem group. The implicit association test was used to further explore the influence of self-esteem on implicit suicidal ideation in college from the perspective of implicit. In study 2,the experiment design was conducted among one-factor subjects. The independent variable was the self-esteem group(high self-esteem group, low self-esteem group),and the dependent variable was the D value of IAT effect.3.Study 3:In study 3,according to the boundary of 27% before and after the score of the self-esteem scale in the first study,93 subjects in the high and 100 in low self-esteem group were selected.According to the situation types, the high and low self-esteem group was divided into two situations: frustration situation and non-frustration situation. In study 3,2(self-esteem group: high self-esteem group, low self-esteem group)×2(situation type: frustration situation,non-frustration situation)was adopted as the experimental design between the two factors, and the dependent variable was the D value of IAT effect. Results: 1.Study 1 results:(1)The detection rate of suicidal ideation among college freshmen was 3.1%,with no significant difference among all demographic variables. The total self-esteem of college students was 30.02±3.44,with no significant difference among demographic variables. The depression of college students was 12.94±3.84,with no significant difference among all demographic variables.(2)Correlation analysis results showed that self-esteem was negatively correlated with suicidal ideation in college freshmen(r=-0.52,P<0.01),and negatively correlated with depression(r=-0.55,P<0.01).(3)The results of regression analysis showed that self-esteem had a significant negative predictive effect on suicidal ideation in college freshmen(β=-0.52,P<0.001),while depression had a significant positive predictive effect on suicidal ideation in college students(β=0.43,P<0.001).After controlling for depression, the predictive effect of self-esteem on suicidal ideation in college freshmen remained significant(β=-0.28,P<0.001).2.Study 2 results:In study 2,a single factor experimental design was adopted among the subjects, and the IAT effect D value of the high self-esteem group(-0.09±0.08)was lower than that of the low self-esteem group(-0.02±0.08)(t=-5.47,P<0.001).3.Study 3 results:The main effect of self-esteem group was significant(F(1)=8.92,P<0.01).The main effect of scene type was significant(F(1)=12.82,P<0.001).The interaction between self-esteem group and situational type was not significant(F(1)=0.21,P>0.05).Conclusion:(1)Self-esteem has a negative predictive effect on suicidal ideation in college freshmen;(2)Self-esteem has an effect on the implicit suicidal ideation of college freshmen;(3)Frustration scenarios have no moderating effect between self-esteem and implicit suicidal ideation.
