A Practice Report On Consecutive Interpreting Of Potato Breeding Cooperation Conference

In July 2019,HUASONG Seed Industry invited a Dutch potato company and Professor Evert Jacobsen of Wageningen University to visit Ulanqab,the “Potato Capital of China”.During the two-day trip,the two sides jointly visited the National Potato Breeding Base,the Potato Big Data Platform,and held a business meeting to discuss further cooperation in the next two years.The author provided interpreting services to both parties,which were mainly conference consecutive interpreting.The practice report elaborates on the process of conference consecutive interpreting,sums up the obstacles and problems encountered by the author,and tries to put forward solutions.At the meeting,Chinese representative Liu Jie explained the construction of Potato Big Data Platform,the integration of potato industry,and expressed the desire of cooperation with foreign guests in potato breeding.With the consent of the organizer,the author recorded the whole conference by mobile phone,and transcribed the recording into text,and made error analysis.Error analysis was originated in the field of language teaching.Translation discipline is closely related to language discipline.Therefore,summarizing and analyzing the errors in the process of translation and interpreting helps translators and interpreters to identify their own weaknesses,and put forward improvement measures to improve the quality of their future work.This paper briefly reviews the preparation before interpreting,interpreting processand feedback of this practice.It also briefly summarizes the definition of errors in interpreting,and focuses on the error classification method proposed by Barik.Taking this method as the standard,it classifies the interpreting errors in this consecutive interpreting task,analyzes each error type in a specific case,and puts forward the corresponding solutions.It can be seen from the analysis that the main errors involved in this consecutive interpreting are: skipping omission,delay omission,compounding omission,and comprehension omission in omission;qualifier addition,elaboration addition,relationship addition,and closure addition in addition,and mild semantic error,gross semantic error,mild phrasing change,substantial phrasing change,and gross phrasing change in substitution.Major reasons were concluded to explain these errors: on one hand,it is necessary to understand the extension width of interpreting as much as possible,and to make effective translation preparation such as practicing terminology beforehand;on the other hand,interpreter should allocate her attention and energy more reasonably by improve note-taking skills and participating in more interpreting activities to ensure the smoothness of conducting future tasks.By summarizing and analyzing the types of errors in this consecutive interpreting,this paper aims to clarify the direction and focus of students' interpreting practice in the future,and hopes to provide some inspiration for interpreting trainees.
