Youth,Nostalgia And The 1990s

In 2013,ZhaoWei's film "so young" triggered an unprecedented wave of youth-based films on the Chinese mainland.Later,in the process of localization of youth films,the 1990 s has become a historical period widely recalled.Nostalgia is a subjective psychological phenomenon of missing the past and a special social and cultural symptom.This thesis,which consists of four parts,mainly discusses the nostalgia of the 1990 s in the mainland youth and nostalgia films from 2013 to 2018.First of all,as for the content and theme,the youth stories of the film are the imagination and exploration of possibilities of individual personality,partners and space environment.Secondly,the nostalgic narrative are constructed with the dual space-time setting,which distinguish the warmth of the old days and the cruelty of reality.In terms of audio-visual language,nostalgic aesthetics are constructed by historical symbols with the characteristics of the 1990 s from specific space such as campus and factory,highlighting the warmth of the old days,the beauty of the broken,triggering the feelings of the audience.Finally,youth stories are more in line with the current market demand of young people and entertainment.And the 1990 s itself is an important beginning,which initially laid the appearance and form of current daily life.Both the 1990 s and youth are characterized by openness and uncertainty.These new directors were experiencing their own youth stage in the 1990 s,and they have their life history and experience in their film practice.Youth nostalgia movies attempt to reconstruct youth,soothe the anxiety of real life,bridge the gap of identity and connect the memory between generations.However,due to the change of the times and the limitation of personal experience,the films have some disadvantages,such as highly homogenized and lack a sense of history.
