Nowadays,the trend of economic globalization urges all countries in the world to speed up the pace of talent training,which undoubtedly cannot be separated from basic education.Today,in the reform of basic education,the topic of “key competences” has become a hot issue in the basic education in China.It is also a key factor in deepening the reform of basic education curriculum and implementing the goal of quality-oriented education.In China,the development of students' key competences depends on subject teaching.It can be seen that the research on English Key Competences is of great significance to the development of students' key competences.However,from the current situation of high school English teaching,the development of students' English Key Competences is not satisfying.Therefore,based on the new English curriculum and English Key Competences,this thesis takes Liuzhou National High School as an example to conduct a sample survey on the current situation of senior high school students' English Key Competences in the ethnic minority regions.The following three questions remain to be answered:(1)What is the current situation of students' English key Competences in Liuzhou National High School?(2)What are the main reasons that influence the current situation of students' English Key Competences in Liuzhou National High School?(3)What are the main measures for developing high school students' English key Competences in the ethnic minority regions? In this research,124 students from Senior Two and 6 English teachers are selected as research subjects.By using the research methods such as literature study,questionnaire,interview and classroom observation,the current situation of English Key Competences is discussed from four aspects: language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning capability.The research finds out that the current situation of students' English Key Competences is not satisfying,with thinking quality and learning capability relatively backward.The results summarize the main reasons that cause the current situation of students' English Key Competences.The four main reasons are:(1)English education in minority regions is relatively backward and students' English foundation is weak;(2)There are some problems in classroom teaching,such as teachers' backward teaching ideas,outdated teaching methods and monotonous teaching contents;(3)curriculum design is inappropriate,and the role of selective courses has not been well played;(4)evaluation contents and methods are not diversified.Based on the above survey results,the thesis proposes specific measures of developing high school students' English Key Competences in the ethnic minority regions:(1)overcome the gap between junior middle school and senior high school;(2)improve the effectiveness of classroom teaching;(3)optimize curriculum contents and regulate curriculum management;(4)diversify the evaluation subjects and methods.Hopefully,this thesis will provide valuable references for the development of students' English Key Competences in the ethnic minority regions.
