A Report On Translating US Election Analysis 2016: Media,Voters And The Campaign(Excerpts)

This translation report focuses on the first chapter of US Election Analysis 2016: Media,Voters and Campaign,a 2016 election analysis report published by the School of Media and Communication at the University of Bournemouth within ten days after the conclusion of the 2016 US election.The first chapter of the analysis report mainly describes the connection between the press industry,President Trump as well as the 2016 election,which consists of 11 commentary articles written by 11 university scholars from Europe,North America and South America.Due to the characteristics of the text and the research value of the contents as well as the author's comprehensive knowledge and writing skills,the translation of this project is a challenging undertaking.Therefore,the translator believes this translation report is of some value.The translation report consists of five main parts.The first chapter introduces the background and the significance of the translation project.The second chapter is the process description,including the preparation work before the translation,the translation and proofreading and correction after the translation.The third chapter introduces the Text Typology Theory and features of the source text as well as difficulties in the translation.The fourth chapter is the case analysis,the core part of the translation report.In this chapter,under the guidance of the communicative translation strategy,the translator discusses the translation of headlines of news commentary,political news vocabularies,long sentences and tones of news commentary.Different translation methods are used to solve the problems encountered in translation,such as Amplification,Division,Literal translation,Free translation and Annotation.The fifth chapter is the summary of the report that draws major findings,limitations and suggestions of the translation report.
