The source text of this translation report is an academic book named The Invention of News: How the World Came to Know about Itself,which is written by Andrew Pettegree,a professor of University of St Andrews.The book mainly introduces the impacts that states,nations and bourgeoisie have on the development of news dissemination.Featured by its tremendous facts and arguments,the book is popular among scholars,readers and reviewers since its publication,and it was appraised as a masterpiece in studying the history of medieval Europe.This report is a review of the translation practice of the first two chapters of the first part,which includes five chapters.The first chapter is an overall introduction to the translation practice,including the backgrounds,objectives and significance of the practice.The second chapter introduces the pre-translation preparations,including the selection of the theoretical basis and the preparation works the translator has done before the practice.According to the text typology theory put forward by Peter Newmark,the source text can be classified as Informative Text,and it is better to use relative translation methods to convey accurate information from the source text to the target text.The third chapter is the translation process,including the translation difficulties in translation process and comparison tables in terms,etc.The fourth chapter is the main part of the report,which illustrates the translation skills adopted in the translation process with Communicative Translation as the theoretical guidance.The last chapter summarizes the lessons in this translation practice.
