On The C-E Translation Of Transport News-a Case Study Under The Guidance Of Peter Newmark's Text Typology Theory

Newmark classifies texts into three types based on its functions i.e.informative text,expressive text and vocative text,and proposes two translation methods,namely,semantic translation and communicative translation to guide the translation of different texts.This paper studies the C-E translation of transport news under the guidance of Peter Newmark's Text Typology.The selected transport news mainly comes from China Transport News,and it belongs to the transport text,so words are professional and concise.The lexical features and syntactic features are shown in the use of premodifiers,words with Chinese characteristics,complex sentences and sentences without subjects.The author reviews on the previous studies on the translation of transport texts,and finds that they are mainly focus on four aspects:traffic signs,traffic laws,technical documents on transport and foreign publicity texts on transport,while the translation of transport news is still lack of in China.Besides,the author also reviews on the development of Text Typology theory,and takes Newmark's Text Typology as the theoretical framework.Firstly,the author makes a comprehensive analysis of the textual and linguistic features of transport news,and selects communicative translation as the dominant translation method.Based on the analysis of examples,this paper discusses the use of words,sentences and rhetoric devices,and flexibly adopts free translation and amplification and other translation techniques to convey the information of the source text and enhance readability.Therefore,this study has practical significance and value.
