On The Application Of Baicizhan In Senior High School English Vocabulary Teaching

With the development of network technology and the popularity of smart mobile phone,vocabulary learning applications have attracted more and more attention of senior high school students.Among them Baicizhan is one of the most popular applications.Because of the traditional and boring vocabulary teaching approaches adopted by senior high school teachers and the monotonous and mechanical vocabulary learning methods applied by senior high school students,The English Curriculum Standards for General Senior High School(2017 Edition)puts forward new requirements of vocabulary learning and learning strategies for senior high schools.Therefore,it is necessary to conduct a research on English vocabulary teaching in senior high school.Based on multimodal discourse analysis,input hypothesis theory and learning strategies theory,this research aimed to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of Baicizhan,and to explore the influence of Baicizhan on students’ vocabulary learning performance and learning strategies by a controlled experiment.The subjects of this research were two parallel classes in the second year of a senior high school.The students in experimental class learned vocabulary with the assistance of Baicizhan,while those students in controlled class learned vocabulary in traditional ways.At the end of the experiment,students from the two classes were tested by the vocabulary in target units and investigated by a learning strategies questionnaire.After collecting and analyzing the data of the tests and questionnaires,the author found that: On the one hand,the overall vocabulary performance of the students in experimental class improved significantly.There was a statistically significant difference between experimental class and controlled class in the test of habitual collocation and English meaning;while students from the two classes performed equally in word spelling.On the other hand,the average score on the questionnaire of vocabulary learning strategies in experimental class was higher than that in controlled class,and there also existed a statistically significant difference in the application of three kinds of learning strategies between the two classes.Moreover,students used more meta-cognitive strategies and cognitive strategies than social and affective strategies in their vocabularylearning.In the end,it was concluded that vocabulary teaching with the assistance of Baicizhan could improve students’ vocabulary performance.Students paid more attention to understanding the meaning of words rather than the form of words when they learned vocabulary with the assistance of Baicizhan.So,Baicizhan had obvious positive effects on habitual collocation and English meaning,but it had no clear effect on word spelling.Vocabulary teaching with the assistance of Baicizhan also promoted the development of students’ learning strategies,including meta-cognitive strategies,cognitive strategies and social and affective strategies.
