In the 1980s,there was a great change in translation studies, namely “Cultural Turn”.Feminism began to infiltrate into the field of translation studies and meanwhile, the relevant studies focusing on gender differences also entered the theoretical level. All these factors eventually formed a distinctive feminist translation theory.Based on the“translator's subjectivity”,feminist translation theory introduced gender into translation studies to reveal the gender discrimination in the translation circle.Feminist translators interfere with the text by means of supplementing, prefacing and footing, hijacking and other translation strategies so as to highlight their own female identity and translators' subjectivity. The theory overturned the traditional translation concepts and had a strong impact on both western translation theory and practice. However, domestic studies on it are relatively scarce and little attention was paid to the translation practices, especially in English-Chinese translation.A Thousand Splendid Suns is a feminist work published by the Afghan-American writer,Khaled Hosseini in 2007.Based on the feminist translation theory, this thesis comparatively analyzes the two Chinese versions of A Thousand Splendid Suns(translated by Li Jihong and Li Jingyi respectively),trying to find out the differences between the translators of different genders in translating the same text.On the basis of previous studies, the comparative analysis of this paper is mainly based on the principles of the faithfulness, translator's subjectivity and gender consciousness in the feminist translation theory. The study is conducted at the lexical level and syntactic level, from the perspective of choice of target texts and translation strategies and from the aspect of translation of female images, male images and manipulation to the paratexts based on the three principles respectively.By comparing the two versions,it is found that female translator could better understand the female consciousness in the original text due to her female identity.
