| This paper is a translation report on Chapter Four “Social networks on the Internet:The Web 2.0” of Cyberpragmatics: Internet-mediated Communication in Context. This book, published in 2011,is written by the well-known cognitive pragmatician,Francisco Yus.It is a monograph about cyberpragmatics, studying cyber communication from the perspectives of cognitive pragmatics and relevance theory in particular.Cyberpragmatics is a hot issue in recent years, and this book is of great value in the sense that it offers a new perspective for studying cyberpragmatics and analyzing online discourses.Translating this book will contribute to enriching the field of pragmatics and helping to keep up with the international academic research trend. This paper is guided by Professor Hu Gengshen’s theory of eco-translatology.According to the major principle of eco-translatology—the three-dimensional transformations(including the linguistic dimension, the cultural dimension and the communicative dimension),the translator discusses some difficulties the translator has encountered from the lexical, syntactical and textual levels.By writing this translation report, the author aims to identify some translation skills that are suitable for translating academic books and to offer references for other translators.During the translation, the translator finds that the language of the monograph is accurate and the logic is clear. When translating an academic work, translation skills such as deletion, addition, word conversion, adjustment of word order, repetition of nouns, etc.can be applied. |
