This is a translation project report on the introduction and the first chapter ofTranslation Criticism-The Potential&Limitations written by Katharina Reiss and thefirst chapter of Culture and Language written by Clarire Kramsch.As one of the series of “Abroad Translation Studies”,Translation Criticism-The Potential&Limitations focuses on how to develop a reliable standard fortranslation assessment system.Culture and Language is an introduction tolanguage and cultural relations from the perspective of linguistics, sociologyand anthropology.Based on the “Functional Equivalence” theory of Eugene A. Nida, manytranslation skills and methods,such as semantic extensions,word conceptconversion, the sentences split and sentence reconstruction have been appliedto translation project to discuss the difficulties arisen during or after translation.This report is divided into four parts.Part One is the translation projectdescription,including the background information,purpose and significance of thetranslation project;Part Two is about the linguistic features of the source text andbased on that,the translation strategy for the project is raised; Part Three is about thetranslation difficulties and methods. Part Four is a summery of this project, includingthe implication, lesson and unsolved problems in the translation project.
