The translator carries out this translating practice in order to introduce more information about the politics and economy of capitalism in the nineteenth century to the readers who are interested in the history of capitalism in this period or whose majors concern the modern global history.The translator also attempts to show the guiding effect of Eco-translatology on the translation of academic texts.This practice is based on the translation of the Introduction and Chapter Twelve of Empire of Cotton: A Global History,an academic dedicated history book by Sven Beckert,a famous American history professor.The source text belongs to the academic text,therefore,in accordance with Peter Newmark‘s theory of category of the texts,it is mainly regarded as informative text.Still,some contents of the source text are expressive.The translator translates informative text under the principle of ?readers first? and expressive text under the principle of ?author first?.Moreover,translating approaches of Eco-translatology mainly divide into adaptation and selection in three dimensions: the linguistic dimension,the communication dimension and the culture dimension.The same is true of approaches of this translating practice,so it is usually necessary to adapt to the source text and the target text in three dimensions and make the transformation conform to the source text and the target text.Besides,translator-centred translation,an indispensable idea of Eco-translatology,is taken care of in this translating practice.The translating practice verifies that three-dimensional transformation of Eco-translatology applys to the English-Chinese translation of the academic text.
