Coherence In The E-C Translation Of Sentence Group

This is a translation report on English patent texts,among which the author chooses four preferred texts concerning communication,optics and chemical engineering as research object.As English patent texts contain a large number of sentence groups that are coherent in content and cohesive in structure,the translators need to place emphasis on coherence when translating patent texts,thus this report focuses on the coherence in the E-C translation of sentence group of patent texts.The report discusses the corresponding strategies to deal with coherence from semantic,logical and structural perspectives.The translation practice shows that with full understanding of the coherence structure,the translator can apply reiteration,lexical cohesion and supplement in semantic coherence,transform “tree form” progression to “line form progression” and change clause or sentence orders in logical coherence and adapt the time structure and explanation structure of source text to target language habits to make the translation coherent in Chinese.
