Autonomous learning is an important topic in the field of educational psychology,and also a modern learning method that responses to the call for lifelong learning ability in modern society.With the deepening of the reform of the college entrance examination and elementary education reform,senior high school students are required to improve their English autonomous learning ability.Foreign and domestic researchers have conducted comprehensive research on this subject,mainly focus on the state of the English autonomous learning of senior high school students,but few researchers study the current situation,reasons and strategies of English autonomous learning ability of senior high school students.Therefore,it is necessary to investigate the state of the English autonomous learning of senior high school students and give feasible countermeasures.This research is conducted based on Cognitivism,Humanism and Constructivism and takes 358 students from seven classes of grade-two and their English teachers in a senior high School in Panjin as research subjects.The methods of questionnaire,classroom observation and interview are used to investigate the state of English autonomous learning ability of senior high school students from seven dimensions including learning motivation,learning content,learning time,learning method,learning process,learning results,and learning environment.This research intends to focus on the following questions:(1)What is the current situation of senior high school students' English autonomous learning ability? How is the senior high school students' English autonomous learning ability demonstrated in each of the seven dimensions?(2)What are the reasons causing the English autonomous learning ability of senior high school students?(3)How do teachers help to develop students' English autonomous learning ability in practical classroom teaching?It is found by analyzing the results of both questionnaire,classroom observation and interview that senior high school students are not very good at learning English autonomously.Though they have the initiative and enthusiasm to learn autonomously,and they can spend certain time in English autonomous learning,and make simple evaluation on learning results,they still need to improve their ability in the crucial aspects of learning content,learning strategies,and learning process monitoring.And the autonomous learning ability of students is closely related to the guidance and instructions of teachers in class.Finally,the problems existing in the English autonomous learning of senior high school students are found in terms of learning of students,guidance of teachers,policies of schools,and social environment,and countermeasures are given from the four perspectives to develop and improve the autonomous learning ability of senior high school students.
