This is an escort interpreting practice report.As China integrates into the world,platforms to communicate and cooperate with foreign countries have increased.MTI students have more chances to take on escort interpreting tasks.At the same time,some intercultural communication barriers are encountered.The case study is based on the author's three escort interpreting practice.Previous studies on escort interpreting,intercultural communication barriers and the mechanism for effective communication are reviewed.The intercultural communication barriers are analyzed at lexical,syntactical,discourse and cultural levels.By describing national conditions,languages,policies,economic development and other aspects between different cultures,the author attempts to find the reasons causing intercultural communication barriers and ways to overcome them.Basing on the analysis,the author figures out the relationship between different parties involved in escort interpreting and proposes a mechanism for effective communication.It is found that an interpreter plays an essential role in overcoming intercultural communication barriers.To achieve effective communication,an interpreter should improve her professional skills,properly manage the relationship between the parties involved,and make full use of information.The mechanism for effective communication proposed in the thesis contributes to future interpreting work and studies.
