With the rapid development of globalization and the continuous improvementof transportation, more and more people are involved in intercultural communicationbecause of the demand for communication and exchange. Interculturalcommunication leads to the great needs for interpreting service. However, because ofthe differences in culture and language, there are inevitably many cultural barriers incommunication; they lead to great challenges for interpreters. As the bridge ofintercultural communication, interpreters should be familiar with both the sourcelanguage and target language. Consequently, only when proficient in the cultures ofthe source and target languages, can the interpreters do the interpreting workexcellently.In the Foreign Aid Training Program of the Ministry of Commerce, the writerworked as the escort interpreter for officials during their visits and in classes andwitnessed and experienced various languages and cultures of different countries. Shedeeply realized that if the intercultural barriers can not be handled properly, it maycause problems and misunderstandings, and consequently influence the quality ofcommunication.By analyzing the problems in terms of verbal communication and non-verbalcommunication that interpreters may encounter, and giving the related solutions tothese problems, the writer hopes the report will contribute to the enhancement ofintercultural communication ability of the interpreters.
